Aeration
Aerating a lawn can be done in numerous ways using a machine which can have a different range of tines implemented in it. Each aeration type has different benefits for the lawn. The main two types of aeration are 'holo-tine' and 'solid-tine'.
Benefits of aeration;
Allowing air, water and nutrients to better penetrate the soil.
Encourage root development.
Reduces surface water resulting in better moss control.
Helps to reduce compaction of soil.
Holo-tine is where a small plug is removed using a mechanical process leaving a hole in the ground this form of aeration helps to create larger air pockets in the lawn, helps with decompaction and helps to thin thatch developing.
Solid-tine is where a spike is driven into the ground providing air pockets to help the root system get much needed oxygen while also helping to break up thatch and encouraging better root system growth.
Aeration is beneficial for every lawn type as through different weather or life conditions soil can become compact which contributes to poor root systems that in turn results in a weaker grass sward. It helps contribute to defending disease’s and helping drainage to stop moss resulting in a much healthier lawn.
