Leather Jacket Control
Tell-tale signs that your lawn may be suffering from and contain either one of these pests may be;
In not hot/dry conditions the lawn is looking brown and not growing well (usually spring)
Fox’s, badgers or birds such as different variety of blackbirds, crows, magpie’s or starlings are common are pulling at sections of the lawn and leaving tufts of lawn everywhere.
Large patches down to the soil have started to appear in area’s of the lawn.
You can physically see leather jackets or chafer grubs on the lawn or patio.
Leather Jackets
These are the larvae of the Crane Fly (daddy long legs) the life cycle starts usually in September when the egg is laid, two or three weeks later these hatch and the leather jacket will start to feed on the root system of the lawn. If this is left unmanaged it gets worse especially into Spring. This is when they are usually picked up by the predator and the external damage on the lawn starts.
