Scarifying

Lawn scarification is the reduction of thatch and moss from lawns. Thatch is a dead layer of organic matter which naturally occurs over time in most lawns. this can cause the existing growth of the lawn to struggle and suffocate the root system causing weak grass and encouraging other problems such as weeds, moss and lawn diseases.

How to scarify the lawn?

Scarifying is done by a mechanical process using a machine with blades that are set up to get into the soil to help remove thatch or set at the right setting scarring the surface if it to help reduce moss from a lawn.

Why should we scarify?

This process is commonly done as it encourages new growth to the lawn, as all lawns over time product dead matter which is decomposed and turned into thatch. Even existing lawns benefit from scarifying as it helps to allow water, fertiliser and air to reach the root system.
